I have three main writing journals: one for the body, one for the mind and one for the soul. I’ve been doing good about keeping up on the soul journal almost every day as I am reading through The SpiritualĀ Canticle by St. John of the Cross recently. I even occasionally write in the mind journal. However, I haven’t written in this one (body) since one entry in April and before that sporadically in March.
My idea was to keep track of my food each day for SparkPeople and also my exercise regimen. For the last few months, though, I’ve done neither. I’ve eaten, of course, but haven’t recorded it on paper or online or any way systematically. I’ve recorded mentally that I’ve been eating too many candy bards, too many burgers (no McDonald’s though, but maybe even worse a local restaurant that makes what I only can call “big-ass” burgers) and too many milkshakes (hey, this one won’t hurt, right? I tell myself).
As for an exercise regimen, I don’t have one. I’m lucky if I even can get outside sometimes, sad to say. The lack of sleep or at least getting to bed at a decent time hasn’t helped. Even as I wrote the draft for this, it was 2 in the morning. Promises of getting up earlier have fallen to the wayside as I play Scramble on Facebook.
There is no quick fix. I can’t go out and run five miles later today. Or resolve that I will post all my food at SparkPeople every day. But I can make a concentrated effort to record my food and exercise here each day.
Then at least once a week, go on SparkPeople to record it there as well each day.
Small steps. It’s how I’ve digressed from my good intentions. It’s how I need to get back to
where I need to be
to climb Mount Tom
to climb Bald Eagle Mountain
(I’m signed up for my second Bald Eagle Mountain
Megatransect, a 25-mile trail hike in October).
Small steps.

Some rhetorical questions/gentle suggestions….
I know what “regimen” means, but as I read this, it sounds like something difficult that has to be done, something onerous. I suppose training can be like that at times, but hopefully it can also be fun too. So I’m wondering if you’re finding running less fun lately?
Another aspect is the time angle. Can you find a consistent time to run? If that’s been problematic, is it something beyond your control, or can you renegotiate other commitments to yourself or others that would change your schedule somewhat?

Small steps, indeed. You can do it. You’re worth it — and, as I recall, you ENJOY it. Do we need to get the pointy boot after you??

I had a few “bad days” of running, meaning I still ran but felt completely unmotivated to do so. As you know, I run first thing in the morning. It was 6:00 but it’s now become 5:00 a.m. Eeek! This is best for me though because it means I get it done. If I didn’t do it first thing in the morning, I probably wouldn’t do it.
I love the idea of 3 writing journals-body, mind & soul. That’s great!
